In a shocking incident, a sweeper, whose job is to keep the hospital clean, has been seen treating patients at sub-district hospital Kangan. Yes, you have read it right; the sweeper wasn’t treating any general patient, but was seen suturing a patient, shows a video in possession of the Press Trust of Kashmir. The person who shot the video told that the patient was his father. “I was accompanying my father Ali Muhammad Magray to the hospital. The doctor first visited and then asked a sweeper (who is actually employed for igniting furnace) to treat my father, said Shabir Magray. According to Magray, this man (whose name he was not able to confirm) took one hour to give seven stitches. “Then I approached the same doctor and told him that you have left my father with a butcher. It took him one hour to give seven stitches. Later the doctor came and gave the rest seven stitches. My father had to get 14 stitches,” Shabir Magray said. Magray said when he asked the other staff members of the hospital to reveal the name of the doctor and the sweeper, who gave stitches to his father, but they all refused to divulge the details. “But I had already shot the video. This even infuriated them,” he said. He said most of the employees of the hospital in a sarcastic tone “call this sweeper a doctor”. “He is a doctor. He knows everything,” Magray added. Magray said as he was about to leave the hospital, another similar episode occurred before his eyes. But this time, he said the staff of the hospital didn’t allow him to enter into the room and capture the video. “A young boy had to plaster his fractured arm. The same person (sweeper) plastered his arm. I told this sweeper what if the joint of the arm doesn’t fix properly, why he was doing this. He replied the doctor has asked him to do this,” said Magray. Medical Superintendent of sub-district hospital Kangan Dr Tahir said it is very very unlikely a sweeper has done this. “My sweeper hardly has time to do this.” said Dr Tahir.
